As we enter the time frame surrounding the municipal election, I am noticing a trend. A few actually, but one in particular I would like to open discussion on via this post.
I am finding it challenging to find ways, aside from canvassing, online participation and out of ward events, to interact with my specific wards constituents.
Now don't get me wrong, canvassing is in prep, and I will be out with some wonderful volunteers, knocking on doors in the near future doing my best to connect with and hear the needs of my communities members, it's more that I am noticing the lack of events that don't require a means of transportation to get to, that are low cost or free to attend. In recognizing that for many local transit can be unaffordable, and that there is a fair amount of distance between Ward 2 and the main downtown area, so some form of transportation is necessary to attend the local downtown festivities, I wonder how it is that the locals in my community feel on this.
Do you attend events such as those hosted in Victoria Park or City Hall through the summer? What local events outside of the downtown area to you enjoy best?
If so, do you find attending these events manageable financially and logistically?
If not, why? How could we as a community build towards stronger community socialization that could engage your attendance?
Let's open this discussion! What are your thoughts?
